This protected tract has an area of 606 hectares.
It is located on the northern outskirts of Derno, near the railway track and the highway Lutsk – Rivne.
The forest is extremely valuable, as most of the trees are oak plantations up to 130 years old. Interestingly, the forest has a rectangular shape, as the natural hornbeam-oak forest, which became its basis, in the early XX century was expanded by planted oaks and pines. This was done by the landowner – magnate Radziwill from Olyka. Now the trees have reached 90 years and formed into an old forest.
Many species of medicinal plants grow here, in particular a common snowdrop, listed in the Red Book of Ukraine, as well as a regionally rare plant – Eastern pasqueflower.
There are about 70 species of birds, roe deer, and locals recall that even bison used to come in quite often.
A unique five-stemmed oak about 250 years old grows in the tract.
During the First World War, the front line passed through Papyky, and numerous remains of trenches and dugouts remind of that.
